I write to announce the passing of Mr John Hunt, a resident of Hawkhurst for the past 50 years. He died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 86 years leaving his wife, Diana and two daughters.
John served on the committee of the League of Friends for many years and helped out as a volunteer car driver for WRAP, our local dementia care unit.
He was, latterly, vice Chairman of the charity.
He and his family moved from Surrey to Hawkhurst in 1973 when Letraset, his employer moved to Ashford.
He was quickly enlisted as a Scout leader and reached County level in the movement.
As most local residents will know, John served on the Hawkhurst Parish Council for years and was Chairman for some time. His last meeting was held the night before his death.
He was a keen photographer and held the position of both Pond and Tree warden.
John will be remembered for being loyal, giving generously of his time and forever helpful.
A celebration of his life will be held at St Laurence church on Friday 26th January at 2.30pm.
