F4F Hawkhurst Foodbank

F4F Hawkhurst Foodbank has sessions on Wednesday afternoons between 1pm and 3pm at Hawkhurst Baptist Church. We operate on a referral system, with referring agencies issuing clients with a voucher that entitles them to a week's worth of food and other necessities where available.

Wherever possible, we aim to top up the non-perishable items with fresh produce such as cheese, spread, fruit and veg. We usually also have some supplies of toiletries, pet food etc. Our friendly volunteers discuss individual requirements with each client.

As part of the Trussell Trust, we can only provide food to clients who have been issued a voucher. Vouchers can be obtained from a wide variety of agencies including Citizens Advice, schools, doctors, health visitors, social workers, housing associations, and charities.

Areas Covered

Geographically, we cover Hawkhurst and the surrounding area on the Kent/East Sussex border. Most of our clients are within 10 miles of Hawkhurst. Although we have provided support to residents of 25 villages and towns in Kent and East Sussex.

F4F Hawkhurst Foodbank grew out of the Food 4 Families (F4F) scheme set up by Hawkhurst Community Support Group (HCSG). As part of its response to the Covid-19 pandemic. As restrictions eased, the requirement for HCSG’s support reduced. However, it was evident that there was an ongoing need for the type of support being provided by F4F. Although we knew that we needed to change the way we operated if this was going to be sustainable in the long run.

Hastings Foodbank

F4F already had an informal relationship with Hastings Foodbank, which had generously supplemented our supplies each week. Hastings Foodbank was aware of a gap in food bank provision on the Kent/East Sussex border. F4F was ideally placed to plug this gap by becoming a satellite of Hastings Foodbank. A three-way partnership between F4F, Hawkhurst Baptist Church and Hastings Foodbank was established. F4F Hawkhurst Foodbank opened its doors on 1st September 2021.

Our Support

Hawkhurst Community Hospital League of Friends has supported F4F Hawkhurst Foodbank since its inception. For instance, by providing the funds that allowed us to install racking in our store. HCH LoF also provides a generous bursary. It is this vital funding that enables us to include some fresh items in our food parcels.
