We have been very busy this last few months with various events to go to promoting HCHLOF.
We went to Makers@Moor and if you have never been it really is worth going to see what people have made in their own homes or a shed up the garden. The quality was excellent and such a wide range of hand made products. Prices varied and for some items were more expensive as they are time consuming and materials are expensive.
I spoke to many of the stall holders and for most it was a hobby as they were holding down a day job. Some people had retired. I thought what a commitment.
We did very well as we now after a year managed to find something we can sell and something a little different and not expensive either, people therefore get to know who we are.
How it came about was we have been taking second hand books this year and most of them come from the ones read by Bev and myself maybe we will run out eventually, but we have a good supply in my garage or at Bevs at the moment.
I spoke to one of the organisers as second hand books are not exactly falling into the category of making, they allow us to go as a local charity but I do like to fit the description of the day. It was suggested I bring a book mark or two not making them just bring some new book marks.
I pondered this idea and decided to make them myself. I had a book mark that someone gave me and based my idea on that. I also made a few necklaces and bead bracelets.
For the first time out we did well. The cost is a £1 for any item the books are a donation.
We want people to engage with us and the important work we do within the community.
We look forward to seeing you at the Happy Hawkhurst at Christmas.
